Portland is awesome, but somewhat unpredictable, this time of year. You might get 75 and sunny or 52 and pouring rain. Sometimes both, depending on how far we have to ride.
Today may not have been my actual birthday (it’s tomorrow) but it sure felt like it. I slept in, overslept actually, and woke up feeling better than I have since I first started with a cold more than a week ago. And I toasted a bagel, had a cup of coffee, and set off on an adventure with my bike…

…if I want, I can crisscross my way down the mountain or take the descent in one big gulp. I see some racing pigeons just about every day. I pass a daycare and a kindergarten, and sometimes a ballet studio, and a duck pond, and a quiet home where a murdered teenage girl used to live, and the combination of all of this makes me aware, every ride, that I am getting to ride.
